On February 23, 2017, mere days after his 77th birthday, legendary songwriter Leon Ware departed this earth. The man had gifted the world with 13 albums of his own plus scores of timeless classic songs for others including “I Wanna Be Where You Are” (Michael Jackson), “I Want You” (Marvin Gaye), “If I Ever Lose This Heaven” (Quincy Jones / AWB), “Rolling Down a Mountainside” (Isaac Hayes / The Main Ingredient), “I Know It’s You” (Donny Hathaway) and “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” (Maxwell). He was a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and a man who was known for not only the music he gave the world, but also the generosity of his spirit.
Fortunately, Leon left behind one more major musical gift, and we are proud to be able to present it to SoulTrackers. Rainbow Deux, now released on double vinyl, features new songs recorded and performed by Leon, with the help of such notable artists as Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Ronald Bruner, Jr., Rob Bacon and Wayne Linsey. The Taylor Graves-produced project has just been released, features one of Leon’s watercolors on the cover, a painting that portends the mellow, deep music inside. The gatefold package was lovingly put together as both a tribute and a treasure for his fans, friends and family.
We’re proud to present Rainbow Deux as our latest SoulTracks Featured Album. Check it out below and remember this soulful master with us.
