Choice Cut: Semaje shines on a classic

This may be the first time many SoulTrackers hear the music of singer Semaje, but it won’t be the last. The Detroit-born vocalist has a talent that is tough to ignore, with a rich voice that has made him part of Gospel shows around the world. Semaje moved to the front of the stage as a solo artist in 2017, and his star has been rising ever since.

For his latest, Semaje takes on a classic and does it in style. Bill Withers’ 1977 hit “Lovely Day” has only grown in status over the years, and it requires courage as an artist to take it on. But that Semaje does, giving the song a cool urban vibe, with his expressive tenor shining through. Semaje tells us,“What inspired me to do ‘Lovely Day’ was the message of the song; it’s naturally uplifting.  When I listen to it, I get a feeling of happiness and something positive to start my day. That motivated me to record and share my version with everyone!“

The song and video below give us sneak peek at what awaits us on his upcoming Tyscot Records debut album, and the folks at the label are excited to share more. Tyscot A&R Director Claudius Craig proclaims “In my opinion, Semaje is the future of Gospel music.”

We think so, too. We’ve picked Semaje’s “Lovely Day” as our newest SoulTracks Choice Cut. Check it out below and get ready to hear more from Semaje.
