One of the treats for us in 2023 has been the steady release of new singles from longtime ST favorite Sargent Tucker. The NOLA-born, San Francisco-based singer, songwriter and guitarist is a multiple SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award nominee, and an artist who consistently delivers melodic, accessible songs that touch on both soul and pop elements.
For his newest single, Sargent reaches back to a Marvin Gaye classic, inspired by the encouragement from Marvin’s ex-wife Anna. The Smokey Robinson-penned “Ain’t That Peculiar” was a smash hit nearly 60 years ago, and it gets new life with the guitar-and-drum driven remake, which pays tribute to the original while paving its own path.
We’re proud to present Sargent Tucker’s fun cover of “Ain’t That Peculiar” as our newest SoulTracks Choice Cut. Check it out below, and try not to move your feet.
