(March 1, 2023) Jonas has been called the “Godfather of Scandinavian,” and with good reason. For a quarter century he has delivered fantastically melodic, creative, and well-performed music that is soulful, but manages to touch on various styles. Back in 2021, we picked his “All Systems Go” as one of the best songs of the year, and we’ve been anxiously waiting for new music ever since.
That wait ended two weeks ago with Jonas’s new single, “Too Much To Mention.” It is a emotional story of longing, that Jonas tells us was inspired by a period that was difficult for all of us: “I wrote this song in the beginning of the pandemic. Before everything was locked down, I had already bought a plane ticket, and planned a trip to Los Angeles, where I was going to continue working on our PEOPLE ON THE HILL project, with a lot of friends and amazing artists, musicians and producers there. I was so gutted and upset that I couldn’t go. Hence the opening line ‘I miss that California sunshine….’ I just felt like I needed a break from all the bad news, division, uncertainty and negativity. I felt restricted, demotivated and talked down to. In these times, I believe most people can relate to those feelings. And fear is the best way to control people. Really we have more in common than we have differences.”
Now Jonas is issuing the music video for this tremendous song, and it captures the melancholy of its creation, with stark black-and-white shots of individuals singing the lyrics, reflecting the reluctant seclusion of the early days of COVID — a time not so long ago, when the situation of the world kept us separated from each other. The overall feel is quite powerful.
We’re absolutely loving the video for “Too Much To Mention” just as much as we do the underlying song, and we’re proud to present its World Premiere. Check it out below.
