For the last few years, singer and songwriter Heidi Tann has been lighting up the charts with a sound that recalls the sophisticated songs that dominated soul and jazz radio in the 1980s and 90s. Both on solo performances and in collaborations with other artists, she has established herself as an artist on the rise.
For her latest single, Heidi teams with talented saxman Tony Exum Jr. on a groovealicious jam that is the first peek at her upcoming album Silk n’ Soul.
From its infectious, horn-led jazzy opening right through the acappella break mid-song, “Coffee On Your Sleeves” is a joyous, classy cut that revels in the rose of new love: “You’ve got me dancing in my chair / snapping fingers in the air.”
Tann has been establishing her sound with each release, and “Coffee” is her most confident statement yet. Kudos to co-producers Bobby Gomez and LaVelle Powell, and musicians Exum, Bruno Nesci (guitar) and Frank Reina (drums), for providing a backdrop that accentuates Tann’s glow on this number.
