Can it really be 20 years since singer/songwriter Darnell Kendricks took the indie soul world by storm with his joyously summery hit single “Strawberry Lemonade”? Yep, and we’ve been following the Detroit-based artist ever since, with our only complaint being that we just don’t hear him often enough.
Darnell won over a new generation of SoulTrackers two years ago with his song “What A Wonderful Night,” and now he returns with the same Sound Sanctuary production team (Ernest Tolbert, Dominick Shelton, and LaDell Abrams) for the new release, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You.”
Opening with a talkbox over a mild steppers beat, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” is the confession of a man to a woman who has him “feeling some kinda way.” It is a story of both attraction and unbounding love, all set above an adult soul groove that should connect with listeners around the world.
