Chaka Khan revisits “Through the Fire” on A COLORS SHOW

(July 24, 2026) More than four decades after first recording “Through the Fire,” Chaka Khan has returned to the beloved ballad with a new performance for A COLORS SHOW.

COLORS is a Berlin-based music platform known for presenting artists in an intentionally simple setting: a nearly empty studio, a single-colored background and very little visual distraction. Launched in 2016, the popular online series has featured established stars as well as emerging performers from around the world, allowing each artist’s voice, personality and song to remain at the center of the presentation. COLORS describes its mission as providing a clear, minimalist stage for distinctive artists and original sounds, without being limited to a particular genre.

It is nearly impossible to improve on the classic original version of the song, but the new recording provides some ad-libbing and even a bit of scatting on top of the straight-ahead ballad written by David Foster, Tom Keane and Cynthia Weil. And the setting, with Chaka standing alone in an all red studio, is striking. She certainly seems to be having fun on the song, and so are we. Check it out below.
