Today we celebrate the birthday of Erica Campbell, born April 29, 1982. One of one of the most influential gospel singers of her generation, Erica rose to fame as one half of the Grammy-winning duo Mary Mary, formed with her sister Tina Campbell. Beginning with their auspicious debut album Thankful and the across-the-board hit “Shackles” (produced by Erica’s husband Warryn Campbell), the sisters released a number of genre-defying albums that blended gospel, R&B, and soul into a stew that connected around the world.
Since then, Campbell has also established a successful solo career, releasing several albums that have been widely acclaimed and included such hits as “A Little More Jesus,” “Help,” and “I Luh God.”
Happy birthday, Erica!
