Atlanta's LIVE Hot Ice Concert Series Reaches beyond Radio to Deliver; Second show announced for June 30th (www.hoticeonline.com) Atlanta, GA – June 8, 2007 – The Hot Ice Concert Series, kicked off Spring 2007 by honoring The Godfather of the Atlanta soul scene, Ken Batie with a tribute concert in April. Continuing in honor of Batie's no non-sense approach to featuring great music, the LIVE Hot Ice series announces it's second show – "The House that Ken Built," Saturday, June 30, 2007, 10 pm, at Sugar Hill Nightclub in Underground Atlanta.
As a partnership between ATL S.O.U.L. and Jazzyside Entertainment, "The House that Ken Built," will feature live covers and DJ mixes of dance music classics regularly heard during Ken's infamous show on Atlanta's WCLK radio (91.9 FM). Music from artists like Soul II Soul, Loose Ends, Incognito, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott Heron, ‘Lil Louis, the Jones Girls, and others, will be performed by an all-star list of vocalists, musicians and DJs including Julie Dexter, Kelsey Davis, Rhonda Thomas, Kai Martin, Mausiki Scales, Kieresha Roi, Heston, Michael Johnson, Alex Lattimore, DJ Kemit and DJ Kai Alce.
To date, Hot Ice Live concerts have hosted the likes of soul jazz music icons like Roy Ayers, India.Arie, Marcus Miller, George Duke, Maysa Leak, Donnie, Anthony David, Vinx, Mike Phillips and Ken Ford. " Atlanta is a haven for all types of musicians and vocalists that hold their own internationally. Our hope is to continue showcasing the best talent there is to offer with or without consistent radio airplay. As a part of this celebration of dance classics, the show will also feature a digital photo exhibit from Atlanta photographer John Crooms, who has been one of the most pivotal figures in documenting the Atlanta music scene. Crooms' work dates back as far as the early 1990 as a student at Morehouse College where he served as the visual guru of the legendary Funk Jazz Kafé, Chocolate Soul, Earwax Music, Sol Fusion and multiple DJ performances. Crooms also served as the eye behind the lens for the 2003 "Great Day in Atlanta " project that captured artists from all walks of life. Among Crooms' other works are a self published book entitled Miami 2006 Winter Music Conference Unauthorized. Both Great Day in Atlanta and the Miami 2006 Winter Music Conference Unauthorized are on sale now. Batie Memorial Fund was established to preserve the contributions, legacy and influence set forth by Atlanta radio veteran and Godfather to the Atlanta soul music scene, Ken Batie. Ken Batie transitioned on February 12, 2007 leaving his wife Lisa, daughter Kennedy and son Kenneth.
