Kevin began his journey as a musician at the Baltimore School for the Performing Arts where his main focus was classical trumpet. During his time in high school it became apparent that he had a hidden talent the ability to sing, and sing well. Many of his classmates found it hard to believe that such a powerful and silken tone could come out of that red haired freckled faced kid. Kevin was classified as a bass/baritone at the age of 13.
He has developed a wide range that has become very impressive. After graduating he continued his studies at The Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Berea, Ohio before transferring to the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts to study jazz as an instrumentalist. While attending Berklee the trumpeter joined the Gospel choir as vocalist as a result he became a well sought after session singer for songwriting and production majors. He was also a frequent featured soloist for recitals.
It was his relationships at Berklee that help to foster his touring and recording experiences with some major recording artists: Lalah Hathaway, Brian McKnight, Walter Beasley (also a professor at Berklee),Harry Connick Jr, Will Downing, Gerald Albright, James Day, Donnie McClurkin, Delfeayo Marsalis, and the legendary Philip Bailey of “Earth, Wind, & Fire” just to name a few.
Having his roots staunchly springing from rural South Carolina and spending many summers with his grandmother, he attended church with his family regularly. Kevin definitely has gospel influences in his repertoire. He began out of necessity while living in Los Angeles, California becoming an assistant Choir Director when the appointed Director was called away for a time. This experience bloomed more when he returned to the East Coast where he was asked on numerous unsolicited request to head music ministries. Kevin became proficient at not only leading choirs but also playing the piano and directing while seated behind the keys, a fiery display.
