Twenty-three year old singer-songwriter, Kentrell (Marcus Kentrell Brown) was born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago. The son of a gospel singer, he was leading solos in the church at age 6, and as a teenager began pursuing his dream in the streets of Chicago As a middle child, he faced hardships growing up such as dealing with his parents divorce at age 13 and adjusting from country to city life. At 17, Kentrell began penning songs after finding it difficult to get others to create songs for him. Now, he feels that he has experienced the best of both worlds, "lot of artists that I look up to are from the Midwest, Chicago made me tough. I had to work hard…you can never give enough." Kentrell‘s musical vision is to create "big records that are timeless."
His music, which he describes as "pop soul" is infused with his Mississippi church roots and Chicago street swagger. Mirroring the legendary footsteps of Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Michael Jackson, Kentrell’s musical vision is to create "big records that are timeless."
Kentrell’s current single ‘Encore‘ can be described as a sexy, sultry melody. "Do you mind if I take my time ‘Cause what I have to give will blow your mind/ An audience this beautiful
deserves the best so I’ll start the show. . . It’s my pleasure to please you and after all I’m gonna give I’ll leave you screaming for an Encore," he sings. Produced by Malay and KP and written by Kentrell, James HO, and Kawan Prather, ‘Encore,‘ is the first single from the singer, who signed with Jive Records earlier this year.
Kentrell says he plans to bring back that "feel good music." If his music should evoke any feeling comparable to ‘Encore,’ he’s sure to leave his admirers screaming bravo.
