Former Silk singer/multi-instrumentalist Gary "Lil G" Jenkins is an extremely talented musician and singer. He debutedas a solo artist on 2005’s The Otha Side . The disc is a mixed bag of styles, with a handful of great cuts including the hot dance cut "Friday Night," the Memphis Soul "One And Only," the gritty "You Keep On" and a nice cover of Sam Cooke’s seminal "A Change Is Gonna Come." The middle of the disc is marred by some less interesting tunes and trite, overtly sexual lyrics, but the album’s high spots amply demonstrate that Jenkins has the talent to be a soul music star if he decides to channel his formidable skills in that direction.
