Collette is an R&B singer whose silky voice breezes over hard hitting beats… sometimes a gentle wind, other times a hurricane of South Carolina soul.
The singer/songwriter/producer lists among her influences her gospel-singing mother, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Withers, Jill Scott, Amel Larrieux and Mary J. Blige – a list as varied as her own experiences. She began as a pianist and saxophonist as a child in her native South Carolina, wandering into singing as a teen. After four years in college at Howard University, singing background throughout the high-octane D.C. go-go music scene, Collette was finally ready to expose the world to her unique brand of storytelling.
Collette’s debut album “Experience Collette” was released to critical acclaim in 2008, featuring a sweet blend of self-penned Southern hip-hop and soul. The single You Don’t Know remains an urban radio mainstay, currently in rotation on the SoundChoice R&B/soul TV network. Following the release of Experience Collette, a national promo tour included performances opening for Eric Roberson, Chrisette Michele, Rachele Ferrell and many other soul luminaries. Her versatile style even burst onto the hip-hop scene, where she served as opener to M.C. Lyte, Talib Kweli and others.
The highly anticipated sophomore effort Revolution is due in summer 2010, featuring guest appearances from much-hyped Queens emcee K. Sparks as well as Definitive Jux producer/emcee Danny Swain (beatmaker for Drake, Missy Elliott).
