Raised in Chester, Pennsylvania, Avery’s musical roots are grounded in the church. She later studied classical piano at Spelman College, where she also explored choral conducting, orchestration, voice, and philosophy.

The disc went on to win two SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, including Album of the Year. By the end of 2023, Avery had amassed 5.9 million streams on Spotify, with listeners spanning 182 countries.
