December 19, 2016 — What’s with all these rockers suddenly embracing their soul jones?
Whatever the reason, we’re all the better for it, SoulTrackers. Welcome to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music which is neither pure soul nor R&B but which contains elements of those genres by artists generally categorized outside the soul arena. This week we feature “The World’s Smiling Now” by Jim James.
James is the lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter for the Grammy-nominated rock ensemble My Morning Jacket and is known especially for his rich, expressive voice. James released earlier this year his second solo album, Eternally Even, in which he largely jettisons his indie rock roots for an R&B groove. And it works. The featured track is a romantic, softly -swaying slice of progressive soul with some tasty electric guitar accents. Enjoy.
