June 16, 2022 — Welcome back to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which has elements of those genres and may please your ears. This week we feature the track “Monalisa” by Lojay, Sarz and Chris Brown.
Lojay is a rapidly-rising Nigerian singer/songwriter who issued his debut single, “Ariel,” in 2019. Sarz, his producer, has been a leading beatmaker for 10 years and has worked with the cream of Nigerian artists as well as Drake. Chris Brown is of course no stranger to SoulTrackers and has been a go-to vocalist on remixes for many leading domestic and international artists.
Our featured track is a delightful, infectious, and hip-shaking slice of Afropop with alt-R&B accents. It’s an early candidate for “Song of the Summer” and will bring a smile to your face. Enjoy.
