August 22, 2017 – Welcome back to Another Groove, our series dedicated to new music that is neither pure soul nor R&B but which includes elements of those genres and may delight your ears. This week we feature the track “I Was Wrong” by Chris Stapleton.
Stapleton is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who, after over 10 years of toiling in relative obscurity as a hit songwriter in Nashville, rocketed to stardom in 2015 with the release of his double-platinum-selling debut album, Traveler, which reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and won 2 Grammy Awards. His music is an amalgam of homespun country, blues and rock topped by his big, soulful, whiskey-textured voice. To hear a Chris Stapleton song is to feel like he’s lived it, like he’s lacerated a vein so that he could share the music with you.
Our featured track is from Stapleton’s new album, From A Room: Volume 1, and is an arresting ballad that swings and sways with bluesy, electric soul. The track also highlights Stapleton’s considerable skills as a guitarist; he crafts clean, inventive solos that serve the song’s mood and he never overplays. Enjoy.
