First Listen: Christopher Williams Proves It’s Never “Too Late” for Classic R&B

christopherwilliams

Despite possessing a remarkably distinctive vocal style and an impressive catalog of both soulful ballads and effortlessly grooving uptempo jams, Christopher Williams’ recording career has thus far not been as commercially consistent as the caliber of his work. The Bronx native released four albums on four different labels between 1989 and 2001, in the process scoring on a large scale with gems such as “I’m Dreamin’” (from New Jack City), “Promises, Promises,” and “Every Little Thing U Do.” Since that time, he’s lent his talents to an impressive variety of off-Broadway productions such as A Good Man Is Hard to Find and The Clean Up Woman.

Williams gave fans a teaser of his R&B comeback with the new jack swing throwback “Not Conditional” in 2013. Now, he’s prepping for the release of his 2016 album, Simply Christopher, with “Too Late,” an atmospheric midtempo joint with a nostalgic melody and modern production savvy. Vocally, he’s in top form, with his smoky delivery of the lovelorn lines reminding audiences of where crooners like Jamie Foxx and Tank took a few of their phrasing cues. Take a listen below and let us know your thoughts on Williams’s newest single!
