For the better part of the last year, we’ve all seemed to be standing in place. And in these odd times, many of us have found comfort and joy in music, more than ever. The Prince of Sophisticated Soul, Will Downing, took the odd year that was 2020 to get his creative juices flowing, and the result is a gem of an album.
SoulTrackers have heard bits and pieces over the past several months, from the outstanding dance jam “Right Where You Are” to the beautiful tribute to lost loved ones, “So Many Good Die Young,” to the inspiring midtempo, “Stand Up.” And now those songs come together with the rest of Will’s 2020 sessions, in the form of the much anticipated album, The Song Garden.
It is always a treat when we hear an artist at the top of his game, and The Song Garden shows that Will Downing is still The Prince, now three decades into his reign.
