(June 6, 2025) Donna Odain’s “Find Our Way” is a tune that will go down well among music fans who long for the acid jazz sound that had us grooving in the 1980s and 90s. The song features that mesh of a funky bass line and jazzy guitar riffs, along with tightly harmonized horn work. Think of bands like Incognito and you will be in the right musical place.
Odain tells the story of two people who have found something so strong that they will work to overcome any obstacle standing in the way of them being together. Fans of Full Flava are familiar with Odain’s work. She was among the vocalists on Full Flava’s 2003 album Colour of My Soul, taking the lead on the tune “Make It Right.”
That song was an inspirational number encouraging people to be true to themselves as they pursue their dreams, but it had that same soul/jazz fusion heard in “Find Our Way.” Whether Odain is singing about seizing the day or doing what needs to be done to make a romantic relationship work, she brings the same emotion and precise phrasing.
