(May 21, 2025) Being “ascendant” is defined as someone or thing that is rising in power and influence. Music that is inspirational played by musicians who place an emphasis on stirring jazz, soul, rock, funk and world music into an unapologetically analog brew has been the primary mission of the band Ascendant since its formation more than two decades ago.
The realness again rises to the top on Ascendant’s latest single “Love Saved My Life,” which drops on May 23. It would not be surprising if the band recorded this tune while jamming together in a studio. “Love Saved My Life” has that kind of grit.
