World Premiere: Anthony David brings the Summer on new single

(April 2, 2025) SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award winner Anthony David is rightfully held as one of the leading examples of what soul music is at its best. The title of his debut album, Three Chords & The Truth,  sums up David’s approach to music. It’s about musicality and incorporating every strand of Black music into his pursuit of infectious melodies and honesty. Whether the topic is relationships, politics, economics, his home state of Georgia, or having a good time, David keeps it real and he keeps it funky.

His music draws on blues, gospel, soul, hip-hop, folk, jazz and, in the case of David’s latest, “For the  Longest Time,” Afro-Caribbean melodies. The reggae, percolating and percussive beat heard in “Longest Time” is familiar for David. We heard it on “50/50 Love,” his duet with Julie Dexter, and he returns to it now on “Longest Time.”

The track opens with a drum and bass opening before sliding into a bouncy reggae beat augmented by an electric organ. David uses his signature conversational baritone to make it plain to a young lady that he’s been thinking about her. He’s been waiting for her to grant him entry into her heart, and he’s willing to wait longer. David is a guy who knows honesty is always the best policy when it comes to romance and music.
