(June 4, 2024) Gospel artist Jason Nelson’s initial encounter with the artistry of Madison Ryann Ward came when he heard a snippet of her singing Jonathan McReynolds’ “God is Good.” Ward made quite the impression in those 45 seconds: “That 45 seconds instantly made me a fan. I followed her music releases and reached out to see if she’d be interested in being a part of the recording and she agreed to be a feature.”
Nelson and Ward collaborate on “Made New,” one of the songs included on Nelson’s upcoming live album You Belong: Live in Durham. The project was recorded at World Overcomers Christian Church in that North Carolina city.
“Made New” has all the elements of a song that will have a big presence on Christian and R&B stations. There is the message of how the old can be transformed to new through the power of Christ. That message will inspire those looking to achieve a breakthrough in their lives by helping them understand that they don’t have to be bound by the past.
“Made New” is a song that leans heavily on its R&B production values. The song possesses a midtempo pacing augmented by a smooth bass, acoustic guitar flourishes and organs. Nelson and Ward mesh well vocally. Ward, who first captured music fan’s attention with a performance of Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools which went viral, is in her comfort zone singing R&B.
It’s a great live performance by two excellent artists. Check it out here.
