Matthew Daniel's London Soul Scene - July
Yet again another SoulTracks dot com feature of mine. This time with more artists and mentions than previously! And a bit more of a personal feel to it! Enjoy, and do check out my my space page for my own tracks www.myspace.com/matthewdanielsounds old websites http://www.feelthesoul.co.uk/, and http://www.justsoul.net/.
Low budget soul are two underground producers the leading member being Tris ‘Ol' English' Browne, who mix in similar sounds like Jill Scott's Vol. 1 but with a London soul touch to it. With more rhythms and soul singers such as Marcia Escoffrey and Randolph Matthews (check out). They released Strangers To The Ordinary on Futuristica Music. It received great reviews from leading urban music magazine Vibe Magazine and DJ spins from Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay. http://www.myspace.com/lowbudgetsoul
Rasiyah
London based nu-jazz, soul and electronica singer Rasiyah has a phenomenal voice. It gets me mad because after seeing a
disgraceful Glastonbury performance by Amy Winehouse, unfortunately singers who sing soul and are black, sound better, and are together i.e. with it. Won't be getting heard at all this year and instead we have to put up with this confusing idiot who is a complete tart, yes I love Frank, I love her voice but what hell? Amy, get yourself together! Rasiyah has a voice that shows her inner-strength with songs like U Betta Run. Check out funkier songs on her my space page. www.myspace.com/rasiyah
Kaida Tatham
Moved to South London and began networking with several top producers in the underground movement. He started playing piano, and became a member of UK's well-known Bugz In The Attic; he started making music in a studio where I live, Richmond. He met IG Culture (Which I did at Goya Music Distribution R.I.P but sadly didn't have the confidence to ask to work with IG instead stupidly asked if he was the real IG Culture!). Kaidai Tatham then went on to work with the likes of 4Hero and MDCL, his album is good. www.myspace.com/kaidatatham
Tawiah
Tawaiah does sing only one irritating thing "Yeah" but she sings it well! I loved her Glastonbury performance though I was on my sofa; I could still feel Tawiah's vibes and loved her outfit (not Mark Ronson - total looser!) Famous because his Dad was in the industry, how is that inspiring?! Tawiah...what a voice! Go get her amazing EP In Jodi's Room. NOW!! www.myspace.com/tawiah
IG Culture
Having met the guy in person, he clearly knows his stuff in the studio. IG Culture is one of THE BEST producers in London. Why Mark Ronson get a Grammy and not IG!? Check IG Culture out at. www.myspace.com/sonofscientist
Zena Edwards
Long time poet, Zena Edwards released The Healing Pool in 2003, in my opinion London's very own Erykah Badu or Ursula Rucker just without Kedar Massengburg or The Roots Zena Edwards sung back up for Julie Dexter alongside friends Eska and Marcina Arnold (whom I have all met, Eska mentored me for 6 months and I interviewed Marcina for my site http://www.feelthesoul.co.uk/) Zena also wrote Wood & Strings on Femi Temowo's great album Quiet Storm (a second mentioning of Femi). Highly inspirational artist, Zena Edwards. www.myspace.com/zenaedwards
